Frequently asked questions

The wallet, the money and what happens behind the screen.

What is Vahlett?

Vahlett is a wallet for everyday payments. You can pay people, request money and pay participating Vahlett merchants in rands.

What is the money in Vahlett?

Vahlett uses ZARU, a rand-backed digital asset designed for payments. One ZARU represents one rand, with rand-denominated reserves backing the ZARU in circulation.

Your Vahlett balance is shown in rands.

Does Vahlett use crypto?

Yes. Vahlett uses ZARU on Solana.

Solana is the network that records and settles Vahlett payments. In normal use, you see rands, choose who to pay and approve the payment.

Learn more about Solana (opens in a new tab)
Are there fees when I pay?

Vahlett uses Solana to process payments. Solana charges a small network cost for transactions.

Vahlett is designed to keep that in the background, so you do not need to manage SOL yourself.

What if I lose my phone?

Your wallet is designed to be recoverable on a new phone using your recovery backup.

We'll publish the exact recovery steps before launch.

Can I pay at any shop?

You can pay at any participating Vahlett merchant.

Who controls my wallet?

You do.

Payments are approved on your device, and Vahlett does not hold a key that can spend from your wallet.

Can I use Vahlett yet?

Vahlett is still in development for South Africa. The website is a waitlist for early access, not a way to open or fund a wallet.

Payment options, final fees, recovery instructions and launch terms will be published before public release.

What happens when I join the waitlist?

Choose whether you are interested for yourself, for your business or as a partner, then enter your email address and agree to receive early-access and launch updates.
